The Department of Medical Education (or DME, as it is popularly called) at Wah Medical College is a fully-functional academic department and recognized discipline committed to providing strategic and timely training and support for delivery of health professionals’ education in an effective and efficient manner, all the while maintaining the highest academic and practical standards for imparting undergraduate MBBS education and training.
The DME at WMC was established in 2008 along pre-defined guidelines and criteria laid out by the PM&DC and the UHS. Since its inception the DME at WMC has progressively increased its scope of activities to include a wide variety of training and practical experience opportunities, for academicians, clinicians and students alike.

The DME has following facilities for its staff and students:
Conference Hall with Multimedia facilities.
State-of-the-art Clinical Skills’ Lab for students (situated within the School of Nursing.)
Examination & Secrecy Cell.
Skills’ Lab for Hands-on teacher training (in progress.)
Aims & Broad Objectives:
Maintain quality standards and excellence for education, research and career development of staff and students at WMC using evidence-base in theoretical, practical and behavioral domains.
Train academicians (basic scientists and clinicians) in the art and science of HPE using best-evidence in theoretical, practical and behavioral domains.
Conduct academic research in the discipline of HPE and make evidence-based recommendations.
Provide effective, efficient and timely advice and expertise to all disciplines and departments related to HPE activities at WMC.
Sensitize staff and students to current trends in HPE through effective behavior change models.
Include staff and students in the decision-making processes governing HPE at WMC.
Maintain its affiliation with the University of Health Sciences, Lahore through the Council for Collaboration on Medical Education.
Become a role model for other DMEs affiliated with University of Health Sciences, Lahore.
Scope of Activities:
Workshops on: Communication skills; Orientation to Medical Education; Selection of Exam Format & Construction of one-best type MCQs in Basic and Clinical Sciences; SEQ Development; OSPE/OSCE Development; Best Evidence Medicine
Lectures on: Swine flu; Depression in women;
Yearly poster presentation and competition (research conducted by the 4th year MBBS students)
Organization of Orientation Week for First Year students including session on Professionalism – yearly activity
Small group exercise for 1st year MBBS students on “Learning how to Learn”
Clinical skills’ training using simulations in Skills’ Lab – introduction of longitudinal learning aspect in MBBS curriculum
Teachers’ Evaluation in Basic and Clinical Sciences by students using standardized forms
